Present situation, existing problems and solutions for the development and utilization of perlite

The dominant use of perlite ore at home and abroad is the production of expanded perlite and its products. At present, the annual output of expanded perlite in China has exceeded 4 million m3, accounting for about 5% of the annual output of thermal insulation materials in China. It is the most widely used lightweight insulation material in China. According to the statistics of relevant departments, at present, the application ratio of China's expanded perlite in the market is about 60% for construction projects, about 30% for thermal pipes, and about 10% for decorative materials, so it is mainly used for building energy conservation and equipment and pipe insulation.

Although perlite is widely used in various fields and is an industry of Fangxing's Ai, it has faced severe challenges in some areas. In the near future, many materials will replace perlite. In the case of alternative materials, used as insulation materials in mortar and construction, flaky vermiculite is one of the most competitive materials. In terms of insulation, fiberglass, mineral wool, diatomaceous earth, asbestos, fiber and plastic foam are also powerful competitors. The most representative one is Xinxin Thermal Insulation Building Material Factory in Pingqiao District, Xinyang City. It has the largest perlite production workshop in China and has two expanded perlite production lines. The production process uses DCS (DISTRIBUTE CONTROL SYSTEM) system to use the company's TPS system. The whole plant is integrated with process control, real-time operation and plant information. The gas-fueled expanded perlite production line is the largest production line of expanded perlite products in China, specializing in the production of perlite filter aid raw materials. Full consideration of the quality of expanded perlite is the main factor affecting the perlite filter aid. Due to the stable quality of the expanded perlite and high particle strength, the product quality of the BN (AG) perlite filter aid is fundamentally guaranteed. When expanded perlite is used as a filter material, diatomaceous earth is the main substitute material although silica sand, organic fibers and other materials are also used.

Also useful as fillers and additives are powdered talc, silica sand, clay, diatomaceous earth and limestone.

In agriculture, there are meteorites, marms and sawdust that compete with perlite.

Perlite is most susceptible to a variety of mineral products when used as adsorbents, abrasives and additives.

In refrigeration engineering, opaque aerosols and a film of aluminum and glass cloth can replace perlite.

In order to meet the challenges of other products and materials, the perlite and perlite processing industries must first reduce production costs, improve product performance, and make full use of their own advantages to continuously develop new functional products, such as:

Lightweight waterproof and heat-insulating building materials are light in weight, not easy to age, waterproof and heat-insulating, suitable for high-rise buildings as well as lightweight walls, pipe insulation, cold storage walls and other cold preservation.

The composite lightweight functional sheet products are light in weight, high in strength, and can be cut into different shapes suitable for the needs of the site, and the products with high surface flatness after polishing treatment.

The glass architectural decorative board is characterized by excellent physical and chemical properties, luxurious texture and good decorative performance; its mechanical properties, weather resistance and gloss are superior to marble close to granite.

The soilless culture substrate is a promising application field for agriculture, plants and horticulture. Some larger granular perlites are gradually being used in vegetable seedlings as an essential component of nursery soil to increase the permeability and water absorption of the nutrient substrate.

Filter aids, practice shows that the combination of perlite and diatomaceous earth is better than any filter aid alone.
