Researchers have discovered that nanoscale materials have the ability to separate light into color and rainbow colors
This nanostructure is designed to capture different wavelengths of light at different locations on the metal surface. According to the research team, nanostructures can capture a rainbow of color on a metal film about one hundred times wider than human hair. Being able to manipulate color on this small scale implies a wide range of technical applications, including solar cells, LED displays, imaging and spectroscopy, and biological and chemical drug discovery.
Anatoly Zayats, a professor of physics, said: “A variety of nanostructures can be considered for solar cells to enhance light absorption. Our results mean that we do not need to fix solar cells for light efficiency. Sunlight is accepted at the angle. When the back is used as a screen and monitor, this technology will bring a wider perspective to all possible colors." The co-author of the study, Jean-Sebastien Bouillard, added: "The effect of the demonstration here is: It is important to be able to provide color sensitivity for infrared imaging systems. It can also build microscopic spectrum analyzers with sensitivity."
