Guangxi Fisheries Research selected a new variety of "Kinghai No. 1"

In December 2012, the Guina No. 1 shrimp, developed under the leadership of Professor Chen Xiaohan from the Guangxi Fisheries Research Institute, successfully passed the national examination and was officially approved by the National Commission for the Production of Aquatic Products. This marked it as the first new aquatic species to receive state-level recognition, highlighting its significance in aquaculture development. In 2005, Guangxi introduced a group of South American white shrimps representing five distinct geographic populations. This initiative helped establish one of the most diverse breeding pools for this species in the region. Through six generations of continuous selective breeding, researchers developed a high-yielding variety known as "Guanghai No. 1," which originated from Caribbean shrimp. This new strain demonstrated remarkable traits such as rapid growth, strong environmental adaptability, high survival rates, and excellent yield performance, making it well-suited for medium-to-high density farming systems. Compared to imported varieties, "Guanghai No. 1" showed superior breeding performance. At 60 days old, the average weight reached 12.6 grams. By 130 days, the average had increased to 35.17 grams, and at 150 days, it reached 45.46 grams. These results made the variety highly popular among seed producers and farmers across the region, who recognized its potential for commercial aquaculture and sustainable shrimp farming.
