Recently, South Korean scientists made a major breakthrough by publishing a paper on what they call the "world's first" deformable lithium battery. The development has gone smoothly, with the battery showing stable performance. According to a report from Yonhap News Agency, a team of researchers from the National Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, along with collaborators from several international institutions, have developed this new type of battery. Unlike traditional lithium-ion batteries, this one uses nano-materials that can be attached to any surface, creating a flexible polymer dielectric. This allows the battery to change shape while maintaining its electrical properties.
Traditional lithium batteries rely on liquid electrolytes, which can become unstable at high temperatures, leading to safety risks such as overheating or even explosions. In contrast, the new battery is made from a deformable yet solid material—no longer fluid—which significantly improves both safety and stability. This makes it more reliable for use in next-generation electronics.
