A few days ago, Volvo made headlines by introducing the world’s first pedestrian airbag system. The Swedish automaker has long been a pioneer in vehicle safety, and this latest innovation has earned it widespread recognition, including the prestigious “2013 Global NCAP Safety Innovation Award.†This groundbreaking technology aims to protect pedestrians in the event of a collision, marking a significant step forward in road safety.
Lotta Jakobsson, a senior technical expert at the Volvo Car Safety Research Center, accepted the award at the ESV Vehicle Safety Promotion Association in Seoul, South Korea. She emphasized the importance of the pedestrian airbag, stating: “These airbags are designed to reduce head injuries in pedestrians during emergencies.†The system is installed between the hood and windshield. When the car detects an impact through seven front-mounted sensors, the electronic control unit quickly processes the data. If the signal matches the profile of a human leg in its database, the airbag automatically deploys, while the hood lifts up by 10 cm. This helps prevent pedestrians from being hit by the hard parts of the vehicle, such as the hood, windshield, or A-pillars.
Research shows that about 25% of traffic accident victims in China are pedestrians, compared to 14% in Europe and 12% in the U.S. After a collision, the hood, windshield, and A-pillars are among the most dangerous parts for pedestrians. With the introduction of the pedestrian airbag, the new Volvo V40 achieved the highest score in its class during NCAP testing, scoring an impressive 88% in pedestrian protection—its best result ever.
Last year, the V40 also received a five-star rating in the NCAP crash test, making it one of the safest compact luxury hatchbacks on the market. Volvo's commitment to safety extends beyond passengers, covering all road users. By April, the V40 had already sold over 45,000 units globally, with more than 1,000 orders in China. Its strong performance reflects growing consumer confidence in its safety features.
In addition to the pedestrian airbag, the V40 comes equipped with advanced safety systems like Volvo’s full-automatic pedestrian detection and braking system, introduced in 2010. This system can automatically brake the vehicle at speeds below 35 km/h if a pedestrian is detected, preventing a collision. If the speed exceeds 35 km/h, the system will still reduce the vehicle’s speed as much as possible before impact, minimizing the risk of serious injury to pedestrians.
Aluminum Precision Turned Parts
1. The hardness of the material is moderate, and the tool wear of the machining equipment and CNC machining center is small.
2. It can be precisely machined into various geometric shapes such as plane, cavity, shell, sphere, arc, and anisotropy.
3. It is not easy to stain and maintain. Aluminum precision parts, precision parts processing, CNC processing
4. It has good durability and is not easy to corrode. With special treatment process, the service life of parts is longer.
5. Aluminum is environmentally friendly and can be 100% recycled, with high recycling value.
The above five points are the material characteristics of aluminum products. Aluminum is a common material in CNC precision parts processing, with moderate hardness, durability and corrosion resistance. In addition, the cost of materials is appropriate. It is the preferred material for most parts manufacturers.
